Best Podcast Listening Apps In 2020

We all know that podcasts are trending so much right now that there are so many apps that have been created and it can be kind of overwhelming to choose from. But don’t worry we’ve got you covered, we selected some of the best Podcast apps to suit your taste.

IHeartRadio

Not only it's the largest broadcasting radio in the US, but also the top app for podcasts on the App Store. This is a highly recommended app for all podcasters and podcasts enthusiasts. The cool thing about this app is that it’s extremely popular and you can pretty much find any podcast on it. It’s like the Godfather of podcasts.

Castbox

This is among one of our personal favorites. Not only it's free on IOS and Android, but you can download whatever podcast you like so you can listen to it WHENEVER you like. It may not have every podcast that has ever existed but there’s a large variety of podcasts that you can choose from.

Spotify

Yes, the most popular music platform in the world contains podcasts too. It may seem evident at first but there are a lot of people who are unaware that they can find podcasts on Spotify. Fun fact: it is one of the most visited platforms for podcasts.

Laughable

This was a wonderful discovery for us personally. Laughable focuses mainly on comedy podcasts but it will take your podcast listening to the next level. Laughable lets you subscribe not just to podcasts of all genres, but also directly to thousands of comedians, journalists, actors, athletes, musicians, authors, politicians, and other people worth hearing. It’s dead simple to find your favorites and listen to their podcast appearances – even guest spots.

Castro

Although this one is available only for IOS users, it has some really cool unique features. Its sleek design and pretty easy-to-use features make it stand out among other podcast apps. The audio is also crystal clear which is an added feature to look for.

Pocket Casts

Pocket Casts has long been one of our favorite mobile podcatchers, thanks to features like cross-device and cross-platform syncing, episode auto-downloading, and cleanup. As a paid app, though, there was a significant barrier to entry. That changed last September when Pocket Casts went completely free on mobile without dropping any features for free users.

Google Podcasts

Google caught up with the podcast trend and created their own podcast app. If you have Google speakers and an android phone, then Google Podcasts is a must-have. Other features include the ability to adjust playback speed, Google Assistant integration, and adding podcasts to the app directly from Google searches. Google also promises AI-powered capabilities in the future, such as automatic closed captioning.

Podcast Republic

The Podcast Republic is a free, ad-supported podcatcher app that offers you a wealth of features, so much so that we're almost surprised that it's not a paid app. The Podcast Republic covers everything from podcast discovery and automatic downloading, configurable storage management, streaming playback support, a sleep timer, and car mode for easy handling while on the road. Chromecast and Android Wear support to allow you to cast or control the app from your wrist.

Podcast Addict

Podcast Addict covers basic podcast apps with the automated updating and downloading of episodes as well as automatic deletion features to save space, variable speed playback, a sleep timer, and other neat quality of life features. Podcast search allows you to quickly find individual episodes, or search through a variety of databases for new podcasts and trending shows. In addition, the app also supports video podcasts, YouTube channels, audiobooks, streaming radio, and other media sources.
